What is Retinol?
It’s chemical formula is C20 H30 O, but what does that really mean?
Let’s dig.
Also known as Vitamin A1, retinol is naturally produced by our bodies and is seen as a little catalyst in producing collagen, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Basically, it’s the little Vitamin that could.
And we love it.
Being skin-friendly, it is a type of Vitamin A used often in skin care products. It helps to unclog pores, smooth the skin, reduce pigmentation, exfoliate, treat acne, improve skin hydration and reduce wrinkles and lines.
If you have sensitive skin, be cautious about how much you use retinol. Sun-damaged skin is not recommended to have retinol used on it, neither is skin that is over-exfoliated. Most people start using retinol-products in their 30s when collagen levels start decreasing, but many ages can benefit from it. It is an excellent aid in helping those who battle acne.
As with everything, start small and see how your skin adjusts. Put on a small amount at night, once a week and if your skin doesn’t go red or flaky, then you should be inclined to start using more. Mix it with a moisturizer and we can’t stress the importance of using a strong sunscreen on your face, especially if using retinol. Sunscreen is a must for every day, but especially if you’re using retinol in your daily beauty regiment.
We recommend starting off with a low dose, around 0.025% and move up from there. Come by for a facial and let’s see what we can suggest for you!
