It sounds daunting: chemical peel. It seems to imply that we apply a chemical solution to your face which will then peel away impurities off your skin.
Yes. That’s pretty much all there is to it, and here’s why you SHOULD get one.
If you are light to fair-skinned, a chemical peel can help your skin’s appearance. The solution applied to your face causes your skin to almost blister on a small scale and peel off, exposing smoother, less wrinkled skin. Chemical peels are applicable to darker skin tones too, however there is a risk of a resulting uneven skin tone.
If you’d like to reduce the appearance of mild scars, reduce age spots, treat wrinkles from the sun and ageing, and/or reduce lines under the eyes and around the mouth, then chemical peels are an excellent option to include in your beauty regime.
Be warned, after a chemical peel, you are naturally more prone to sun sensitivity so you will need to wear sun screen every day. Despite the protection from sunscreen lotion, avoiding the sun is still best for a little time.
It is important to be honest with your doctor about any medications you may be taking because some medications interfere with your skin and hence a chemical peel may not be the right thing to do under the influence of certain meds.
Before your peel is done, your skin will be cleaned thoroughly after which one of several chemical solutions (depending on what depth of peel you’d like to undertake) will be applied to small areas of your skin. As you wait for the procedure to run its course, you may feel some slight burning or stinging sensation.
After your peel and depending on the depth of it, your skin will either feel like a sunburn with some redding and peeling. These woud be considered mild peels and can be repeated regularly until the desired look is achieved.
Should you prefer a deeper chemical peel, you may experience blisters, some browning of the skin, crusting and peeling. Deeper peels may be repeated every 6 months or so and like all peels, sun exposure is best limited or avoided.
They truly do sound more daunting than they are, but your new exposed skin will be smoother and more radiant. Feel free to contact us at any time to answer your questions or book a free consultation because Your Confidence is my Business.
