Looking at family photos the other night, we always stop to admire and look over the style of the day.
Family photos from the 50s, 60s, and 70s reflect what was trendy at the time compared to today.
Like fashion, body shapes, hair and makeup, brows change with time too. Here’s a look at brows generally through the ages:
1920s: super thin, drawn on brows were all the rage in the flapper era. A shape reflecting a mostly straight, slightly curved style was very popular in this decade.
1930s:brows were still drawn on and thin, but women began to exhibit a stronger arch to the brows. A popular look was the downward curve style seen on many actresses of the time.
1940s: A more natural look was starting to be favored among women. The thin, strong brows of the decade before were being replaced with a softer, fuller and more natural look. Think Grace Kelly.
1950s: Audrey Hepburn was the icon to copy in this decade. She was bold and strong and eyebrows became the same way this decade too. Dark, full, luscious brows grew in from the trends of the decades before.
1960s: Yet, another change. Thin brows started to gain popularity again. Women began to shave their brows and paint on thinner ones, reflecting arches and thin lines.
1970s: Generally, brows got thinner at the start of the decade. Women plucked and plucked again, but as the 70s started to fade, so did the trend and women started to grow them in yet again.
1980s: Brooke Shields was one to remember for the 80s. Things got loud, strong, and bold in the 80s with hair, fashion and brows too…
1990s: …but, the tweezer returned in the 90s. Everyone plucked all over again, with arched, thin brows being all the rage, everywhere. But, makeup started to change and made filling in of brows very easy to do as the 2000s approached.
Today: Today, the yo-yo ball of brows stands at full, shapely brows being the favored look. High arched, clean shapes and full, dramatic looks are what women are sporting.
